Clarifications
Practice group assignments will be made by the coaching staff. The “Entrance considerations” are simply that. They are things the staff will consider when making the assignments. Training ability, performance, maturity, commitment of both the athlete and the parents, and social group will all be taken into account. There is no cut and dry here and there is nothing magical about having a birthday. Be assured that the coaching staff considers every athlete very carefully and the staff considers this task as one of the most important and difficult tasks they are charged with. This task consumes hours and hours of thought and debate.

Practice group assignments are for entire seasons. We will make practice group placements at the end of December for January placements, the end of March for April placements and the end of August for September placements. Every group has a season training plan and the athlete will be best served by staying with the group through the end of the period. If an athlete is moved mid-season, the increased training demands could be very detrimental to the rest of the season.

Even if the athlete makes all the standards for consideration, the athlete may not be invited to move up to the next practice group. Conversely, the coaches may invite an athlete that has not made all the standards to move into a higher group. This could be for a variety of reasons including but not limited to physical, mental, or psychological maturity, commitment of the athletes and parents, social group etc. Ultimately it is the sole discretion on the coaching staff where to place an athlete. If you have a question as to why your athlete was placed in a certain group please ask the coach and we will certainly discuss it with you.

Test sets must be completed with the requisite technique, skill, breathing patterns, etc. All group placements are at the sole discretion of the coaching staff based on many factors, including, but not limited to, training ability, maturity, performance, commitment, goals, and social group. Entrance considerations will change to take into consideration the quality of Katy Aquatics and goals of the Team. Move-ups to the next group will be made in August, December and March.
